M365 identity and access management, including single sign-on and multi-factor authentication, enhancing the security of users accounts

  • Teams Administration:

Managing the Teams hub, creating Teams channels and permissions.  Including controlling external access and guest access

  • Monitoring & Reporting:

monitoring the health of M365 services, tracking usage, generating reports and identifying any issues

Cloud Management (Azure)
Recent projects have involved Azure day-to-day Admin and below are some examples.
Azure Administrator AZ-104 completed February 2024

  • Virtual Machines (VMs):

Creation of Virtual machines for testing purposes.  Primarily Windows platforms (Windows10 and Server2016)

  • Azure Resource Manager:

Creation of resource groups to monitor related resources

  • Azure Monitor:

Monitoring the health, resources and metrics of apps and resources

  • Backup and Disaster Recovery:

Backup and disaster recovery,  protecting user data and applications ensuring business continuity

  • Azure Entra ID

Virtualisation platforms

Worked with Hyper-V on various projects since 2015 and you will find some examples of this below.

  • Virtual Machines (VMs):

Creation of Virtual machines within the cluster for new vendor applications etc

  • Hyper-V Manager:

Day-to-day monitoring of the servers and resources

  • Snapshots and Checkpoints:

Ensuring regular snapshots and checkpoints for disaster recovery and the restoration of lost data

Live Migration:

  • Live migration done on a regular basis to allow the physical servers to be patched updated and rebooted
  •

Resource Management:

Allowing the addition of CPUs, memory increases and drive space to be increased

Network Support

Various network projects undertaken following 2 year 4 module Cisco course at Burnley Uclan in 2013.
Below is an example of a project I have undertaken.

  • Network Design and Planning:

*Site survey completed at WM Blythe it was concluding that a complete overhaul of network was required

* Replacement of all existing switch's

*New fiber connection across site

 *Replace existing wifi network

 *Addition of a Cisco firewall

  • Security Measures put in place on the new switches:

*Unique usernames & passwords

*Port security enabled

*New Vlans mirrored across the switch's

*Disabled telnet and configured SSH for remote access

*Enabled DHCP snooping to prevent rogue DHCP servers

*Disabled all unused ports

*Network secured with Cisco ASA5506-x

  • Disaster prevention and recovery

*Proactive monitoring including firmware updates to patch vulnerabilities

*Enabled Spanning Tree and secured with Root Guard

*Regular switch backups to secure the configuration for quick recovery in case of a hardware failure

On-prem server management
Working in various areas of Windows Server management for almost 15 years.  Below is just a brief overview of what I have had exposure to.

  • User & resource Management:

AD DS is part and parcel of everyday life in IT, for example account creation/modification, device management and group policies.  As well as regular monitoring & updating DHCP and DNS

  • Security Measures:

Security is a top priority for me with regards to on-premise server management. Monitoring of antivirus software, and regular patch updates to protect the servers from potential threats

  • Regular Monitoring:

Continuous monitoring is crucial to ensure the health and performance of on-premise servers using monitoring tools such as AppDynamics or Splunk. This proactive approach helps identify and address issues before they impact the business

  • Installation and Configuration:

I have also been responsible for setting up and configuring on-premise servers. This has involved installing the necessary hardware components, such as processors, memory, storage drives, and network interfaces

  • Scripting and PowerShell:

Utilised powershell for automated tasks and server deployment.
